What is a Rotarian

Rotarians are enthusiastic men and women of all ages from all walks of life. They all share a common interest in friendship and humanity. Ask Rotarians what they get out of Rotary, and each will give a different answer. Some enjoy the social aspect, others appreciate business networking opportunities but all love the chance to give something back to the community. One thing, however, remains constant, every Rotarian has fun. There are a broad range of activities for members, including fundraising, project development, liaising with the community and working with schools, as well as hands-on work both here and in developing countries.

The collective leadership and expertise of Rotary's 1.2 million members helps to tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, locally and around the world. Rotary is united by common values and vision for the future as we sharpen our focus with targeted specific causes that will reach communities most in need.

Rotary directs its efforts in seven areas to enhance local and world impact. The most successful and sustainable projects and activities tend to fall within the following areas:

  • Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
  • Disease prevention and treatment
  • Clean water and sanitation
  • Maternal and child health
  • Basic education and literacy
  • Economic and community development
  • Supporting the environment
